My Mr. Fix It

Last Friday morning I opened the fridge to get milk and blueberries for my cereal. The temperature in the fridge had to be about 70 degrees. Not good. I told Jeff, in the calmest softest voice that I could, that the fridge probably isn't working. A few weeks before that we had issues with our A/C so another big setback was not something we wanted to consider (hence the need to keep calm). Jeff got up to assess the situation and he agreed. Yes mom, it appears that our fridge stopped working a week or so after yours. Strange coincidence. I headed off to work and waited for news about the fridge later that day. Jeff did find out the problem and ordered a new motor (?) which would not be in until the following Tuesday. Um...?!?!? So, our temporary solution was to put large frozen bottles of water in the fridge and keep swapping them out as they thawed. This kept the fridge temperature between 55 and 60 degrees which is cold enough for some items but not others; bye bye milk. The arrows indicate the location of a frozen bottle of water.
Changing out the bottles was my job. I would swap the bottles before work and then swap them again when I got home. We didn't have much food in the fridge at the time and I didn't do my weekly shopping on Sunday to stock up for the week. Last night (Wednesday, not Tuesday) the part finally came in and Jeff picked it up from some place in Macon. He came home, got to work (I helped a little), and had everything up and running within the hour.

Now we have a nice chilled fridge and there was never a problem with the freezer (but the busted part was in the freezer section) so we are back in business. Jeff can fix anything. He really can. And if he can't he at least gives it his all before making a service call or considering replacement. Our dishwasher was making some strange noises last year and he took the whole thing apart, found the culprit, removed it, and put it all back together--with no extra cost to us. I'm a lucky gal.

Well, way to go, Jeff. What in the world! How can 2 refrigerators go out at the same time. You had an easier time. We were down for a week and I had to throw out a lot of food.
