I started The Bedside, Bathtub, and Armchair Companion to Jane Austen last week. I've read a chapter here and there, learning new things about one of my favorite authors. Today I was reading about Mansfield Park (my least favorite of Austen's books--I just can't stand those dang Crawfords!) and there was an image of a stamp included in the book plot summery. It depicts Mary and Henry Crawford (curses!) and the cost is 13p (13 pence). Naturally, my curiosity was peaked and I did some Google-ing. There are four Austen stamps and dozens more of other authors I adore. Some just have the author's face or bust, but others have scenes from their works or a combination of the author's image and a scene.

I think I will print them and put them in lovely frames. They would look wonderful in a library or study. When I live somewhere that has either, I will immediately hang them on the wall.

These are scenes from Jane Eyre.
Check out these sites when you get a chance.
Maybe I should start collecting stamps. I think I did try to start a collection when I was younger but I got bored after a couple days. I wanted to spend my money on gum, not stamps. I guess it's never too late to start one. I'd love to have the actual Austen and Bronte stamps though. This post is a little all over the place (literally) but I had no idea these stamps existed and now I've found some inexpensive artwork.
