Austen Display

I have the fun duty of organizing the book displays for my library. I try to have a different theme every one to two weeks. Focusing on a new movie release (Lightning Thief for example--the movie was a huge disappointment) or a specific project topic helps move the books out the door (at least I like to think so). This week's display is all about Jane Austen. A literature class is studying Pride and Prejudice and I thought a display would be helpful.

This is the sign I made to go with the display. So far, only one book has been checked out, Pride and Prejudice (go figure). I'd love to move to York and open an Austen only book store. You would not believe the number of spin-off books there are. Not to mention all the analysis and biography titles.

I'm sure most people have already heard about Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters. I learned about Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls a month or so ago. Just last week I stumbled on Mansfield Park and Mummies, Jane Bites Back and Emma and the Werewolves. I'll see about getting those added to our collection. Titles I've already displayed include: Jane Austen Ruined My Life, Austenland, Regency Etiquette, Cassandra's Sister, Amanda Grange's Diary books, Jane Austen in Scarsdale, Rude Awakenings of a Jane Austen Addict (I think this is the sequel to Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict), and the Trials of the Honorable F. Darcy. We have several more and the title possibilities for my book store are endless.

I'm also considering becoming a member of JASNA (Jane Austen Society of North America). They have annual meetings, tour groups, and quarterly newsletters.
