So, I loved the movie
Julie and Julia with Amy Adams and the divine Meryl Streep. It's been playing on the movie channels several times over the last several weeks. I watch each time, never tiring of Streep and Tucci.

I became very interested in learning more about these two women. I visited
The Julie/Julia Project blog and was not really impressed. I did only read about 3 posts but the person I really wanted to know more about was Julia Child. I started reading
My Life in France by Julia Child and Alex Prud'homme (her great nephew) last week.

I finished it this morning and I loved each page. She led such a fascinating life and I had no idea how much work goes into writing a cook book! I didn't learn to speak French or how to cook French food but I was totally engrossed in this woman's life who wanted nothing more than to live a life full of love and friendships and marvelous food. I also grabbed
Mastering the Art of French Cooking off the shelf.

This is the famed cook book that Julia and her co-authors slaved over for years to create and publish. It is rather hefty with several chapters. The chapters cover: soups, sauces, eggs, entrees and luncheon dishes, fish, poultry, meat, vegetables, cold buffet, and dessert and cake recipes. Even after all my viewings of
Julie and Julia and reading
My Life in France, I really have no desire to cook French food. It really does seem complicated and dripping with butter (nothing I need to be consuming). Also, the constant mention of her beloved mayonnaise nearly did me in. I did make croque monsieurs (which I think translates to Mister Crunch) this past Saturday for a Mother's Day meal. They were good but not as good as the one I had in York. I'll try another recipe next time. I remember reading a review of
Julie and Julia saying, "Less Julie and more Julia." I agree, hence my post title of Julia and Julia. Bon Appetit!

My favorite part was the scene where she was chopping all those onions and her husband walked in. I laughed my butt off.
Really I did. It fell right on the floor.
