It's fair time! The Georgia National Fair runs from October 7th to the 17th this year. So, on Saturday, Jeff and I went to the fair with my folks. We got there a little after noon and stood in line for 30 minutes just to get in. We were all a little hungry but the smell of the cattle got our attention over the food. We walked through the cattle building and saw some huge cows in every cow color; black, white, brown, black and white.
This cow was very sweet and mooed like crazy when mom walked away.
They were huge and so very clean. The cement floor however was rather dirty with cow plops. I wore my wonderful flip-flops so my eyes were peeled for landmines. We also saw some horses in a competition to lasso smaller cows. One got loose from the arena and a cowboy had to "rustle" him up before it hurt anyone. Those cows had horns. We also saw several bunnies and the cutest one in the bunch was called a lion head bunny. So fluffy and different looking. Being around all the animals really worked up our appetites so we stopped for lunch. I had a corn dog, my favorite fair food, and my dad had a pork butt on a stick. It was all very tasty. After lunch we just walked around everywhere trying to decide which games to play and looking for skee ball. I asked 4 different carnies and no one knew if it was at the fair. One even said they'd never heard of it. Yesh!

We actually won a few stuffed toys with our group efforts in two other games. After another noshing of fair food, this time only potato items (curly fries and potato ribbons). Both were rather bland. We then went in search of crafts and such. We stopped to look at the plants first, including this shrimp plant.
It's really very beautiful and I've never seen one before. I might try to grow one some day. Then we looked at the paintings, drawings, woodwork and pottery. In high school I used to make yarn art. My bff Frances would draw a picture (usually a bird) on a piece of poster board and I'd fill it in with glue and different colors of yarn. It took me hours and hours and I had to complete one each week for art class. I made a C in that class. One artist had about 3 yarn art items at the fair. They were going for about $900 each! They were really incredible. That stuff takes an unbelievably long time to create and there were no flaws in sight. I can't believe I didn't think to take a picture. After seeing all the art work I had to have a dessert and wouldn't you know it, there was a peach cobbler stand right by the fair exit. I ordered one with ice cream. It was delicious! We left about 4:30pm and the lines were unreal. It probably took those people 2 hours just to get in. They're going to have to work on that. Anyway, it was a fun day had by all and I can't wait to do it again next year.
I'm not sure what Sandi felt about the whole experience but I think she had a good time.
The ground was a little soggy but I think we picked a winner. I'm wearing my Haunted Mansion t-shirt from Disney.
Jeff's nephews visited this weekend so Saturday night we carved the pumpkin together. I drew the very unique face and carved the eyes and nose.

We won't have any trick-or-treaters because the house is down a very long driveway but I bought myself a kit-kat to enjoy. I hope everyone has a Happy Halloween!
