We all slept in a little bit. It was the first good night sleep I'd had since leaving the States. We had a breakfast of good old toast and cereal and discussed our plans for the day. It was raining pretty heavily so we agreed it was a good day to tour the York Castle Museum. We were going to walk around town a little more in the morning but the weather really was not cooperating. First, Jim and Anne took us to see their church and then Jim dropped us off outside the museum.
I really enjoyed the museum. We first walked through a series of 'this is what a traditional home looked like in...(insert the time period)'. Then we saw collections from each decade but the decades were displayed by toilets and washing machines and personal hygiene and clothing. A cobble stone street, carriages and mock shops wrapped up the last part of the walking tour.

That's not a real horse by the way. We ended up back at the museum entrance and gift shop. We didn't really find anything we couldn't live without and we noticed the museum cafe. It was tea time! We had tea and a really yummy slice of carrot cake. It was lunch time actually so it served as our lunch. I had a very well balanced diet while in England. I don't remember eating many vegetables. We were about to leave when I noticed a sign for the 'second half' of the museum, the York Castle Prison.
The prison was really neat to walk through. They had the cells open and you could see a projected image of a 'prisoner'. The images reenacted the experiences of actual prisoners during their incarceration. The cruelty, starvation, fear, etc. I thought it was a unique and convincing method of education. After the whole tour was complete we noticed the rain had stopped.
Here's another picture of the Tower. We walked around York some more looking for various souvenirs. Nothing really caught our eye. York is the second most visited place in England (behind London) but it didn't have many touristy shops. Very posh. Again, if I win the lottery, I'm moving to York. Jim picked us up and headed back to their house. Anne's son and grand kids came over for a short visit. We had dinner reservations at Aagrah for later that night. It's an Indian restaurant. Indian quisine is one of Jim's favorite and I love it too. Mom and Susan had never tried it before so it was a fun experience for the group. Mom and I ordered vegetable curry with rice and Susan had the ever popular chicken tikka masala. We also had numerous appetizers but I can't remember their names. The naan bread was sooo good. Here's a picture of everyone at dinner.
That's mom on the left, then Jim, Anne, Susan and me. The food really was delicious but our clothes smelled pretty funny after leaving the restaurant. This wouldn't have been such a big deal except for the fact that we didn't have many clothes. We went back to the house and I listened to stories about Mom and Susan visiting with Anne and Jim over the years. I stayed up until 11pm and then dragged myself off to bed.
