I'm back at work today but I did kick up a lot of mud leaving the driveway this morning. My car looks like crap but this was the best place to park. If the driveway was complete ice I would be stuck and if I parked on the gravel I'd be at the mercy of falling limbs.
Here's my car door caked in ice
This Leyland Cypress usually stands straight up but it drooped from the weight of the ice, right over a power line. It's back to normal now but we still don't have power.
This is one of our river birches flanking the gravel drive. Our birches are really dainty but again the weight of the ice bulked them up and weighed them down.
This is a shot of the woods just outside the porch and I think it may have been snowing a little in this shot. Listening to branches and trees fall all day was a little nerve wracking. Each time you get worried that it will hit the fence or the house or cause a domino effect and take out huge chunks of scenery. I did prepare for the impending doom--I checked out 3 books at the library and my book light was working just fine. What about food, you ask? Well, we had bread, peanut butter, some fruit, oreos--all the essentials. I am tired of peanut butter though. We have running water which is always nice but I really, really hope the power is back on by the time I get home from work. I've enjoyed the time away from the office and the chance to read with abandon but I sure could use a hot shower and a chance to eat some of the food in the fridge that we've already paid for (and yes, I understand at this point most of it will have to be thrown out or evaluated at the very least). The ride to work this morning was interesting. I was able to survey some of the damage. There are huge trees down all over town, trees big enough to block the road. Anyway, hope all is well in your neck of the woods!
