National Book Lovers Day

It's today. Did you know that? I didn't and I'm a little embarrassed because I do know when National Doughnut day is (June 7th). So, I'm going to interrupt the many, many Kauai posts with this one. MSN.com had an interesting slide show about National Book Lovers Day and my favorites are below (I've included the witty captions as well).
"Plans for your future home always include this library." Fo' sho'! Belle is my favorite Disney princess because she loves to read and her life is a real life fairy tale.
"This is your response whenever someone asks to borrow a book." So true! I've lent a few books in the past only to never see them again. I've already mentioned that no one gets to borrow my Harry Potter books, and I prefer to be the only one who handles them.
"And when they finally wear you down, you're like..." First of all, I don't think you could wear me down because I would simply put in a request to have it for you to check out at the library. Secondly, I had to include this picture because it's Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester, my favorite character on Supernatural.
"You did this every year, and enjoyed the books more than the pizza." Do you remember doing this? I certainly do. And I have a confession. I hated to read during that age. Hated it! I would lie about how many books I read, forge my mother's signature, anything it took to get that pizza. Because I enjoyed the pizza more than the reading. Now I eat pizza while reading.
"When your friends talk about what movies they want to see, you're like..." This isn't really true of my friends because many of my friends love to read and purposefully read the book before seeing the movie. However, Jeff is another story (pun!).
"And the book is always better." This is ALWAYS true (I object to the mayonnaise makes a burger better image thought). I cannot think of one movie that was better than the book I read.
"There's no better or worse feeling than finishing a book." There have been a few books and series' that I have suffered through for the sake of my job (the Shadow Children series by Haddix and, most recently, the Uglies series by Westerfeld, come to mind) but for the most part finishing a book feels both exhilarating and depressing. I'm reading two books right now and I'm about to start a third for reading at home. Reading, once a loathed chore, is now one of my favorite hobbies. In honor of National Book Lovers Day I hope you will take a few moments to sit down with a good book, magazine, graphic novel, or whatever you've recently purchased on your tablet.
