I loved seeing all the baby chicks and the colorful plumage of the roosters. There were more at the grocery store parking lot up the street from our condo than anywhere else. We were able to work in a round of mini golf. This place was also somewhat of a botanical garden so that was nice.
There were many, many tadpoles in the water here as well. These guys were much bigger and we even saw some with hind-legs (and tale still in place). I don't think I've ever seen a plush jellyfish. Or squid. Or stingray.
Oh, and I won!!
And wouldn't you know it, the public library was also just up the street from our condo. I had to pop in for a visit. Very nice, very clean.
I've already mentioned some of the poor dinning we experienced in Kauai but we really did try to enjoy some of the local cuisine. Some of it I just took a picture of and moved on. Like with this stuff. They were squishy to the touch.
The taro roll at the luau was delicious.
These chips tasted like funyuns but the onion flavor lingered forever. It was pretty intense.
This avocado ahi poke was really spicy. It wasn't that bad and was full of flavor but the texture was a little too much for me. I only ate a few bites. Jeff tried to stop me and to wait so he can cook it for me. Poke is meant to be eaten raw. When in Rome.
We never ate at the same place twice except this Shave Ice Paradise Place at a shopping center about 20 minutes away. This stuff was delightful and I enjoyed getting to select different flavor combinations. Do you see my snake ring? Love it
We didn't actually buy these but I bet they would have been a hit back home.
We stopped for some greasy, delicious pizza in Hanalei before hitting the botanical garden. I don't have a picture of our food but we did take these pictures earlier in the week which is across from the pizza place.
We didn't have much room in our suitcase on the trip to Kauai so any purchased items had to be tiny or flat. Speaking of suitcases and traveling...we shared a checked bag. It was a way to save some money but that was one heavy bag. It weighed 44 lbs on the way over. As we're standing in line at the Lihue airport to head back home there's a scale so you can weigh your bag before you get to the counter. A guy gets in line behind us and puts his luggage on the scale. It's 50.45 lbs. The limit is 50 pounds or they charge you more. He and Jeff joked a little back and forth about the .45 pound difference. Pretty soon it's our turn to hand over our checked bag. It's 66 pounds which would cost $90. We hurry to remove some items and shove them into our carry-ons. I had a few travel magazines that I tossed in the trash and Jeff's bags of prized finds from Dump Beach, I mean Glass Beach were removed and added to his carry-on. He also swapped out his sneakers for boots. The guy that was behind us noticed our attempts to repack and he said, "Oh, man, I hate it for you guys" or something along those lines. Jeff says to me, "You know who that was, right?" I say no because I never looked at him. "That was Bill Maher". I said no way, multiple times and just rolled my eyes as we headed back to the counter. Anyway, our new luggage weight was 50 lbs exactly, hallelujah. So after a few more mishaps, and I'll spare you those, we finally made it to our gate. The guy behind us comes walking in and yep, it's Bill Maher.
That's it. That's our trip in ten blog posts. I'm exhausted.

That's too bad about your dining experience. We had several delicious meals there. I remember that pizza place in Hanalei and all the workers were high as a kite. Great recaps I want to go back!
