Roadside Stops

Nearly every thing in Kauai is photo-worthy. There were several places Jeff and I (and dozens of other tourists) stopped by the road, or took a short turn off the main road, to take pictures. We also stopped at a few places and walked around a little but didn't stay or swim. Here is Anini Beach.

This is Kilauea Point. It cost money to actually go to the lighthouse, not much but we decided to pass and enjoyed the view and took pictures for a while.

I have no idea what place this is but I loved seeing the horses with the beautiful ocean background.
These are shots of the Hanalei Wildlife Refuge. We actually stopped at this location a couple times during the week.

I also do not know the name of this beach and it doesn't even look like a place where you can walk around or set up towels for the day but this beach was wildly popular. Every time we headed to Tunnels or Ke'e beach the number of cars parked on the road above this beach was outrageous.
This is a repeat view of Hanalei Bay from the paddle boarding post but it was also a roadside stop.
Some tourists were getting a little careless with their roadside picture taking. We saw one guy on a very narrow bridge around sundown, not smart. On our way back from the heli ride we almost had a head-on collision with an SUV. I assume the driver was rubber-necking at the views but they swerved at least 3 times before they finally went off the road into some plants. Jeff reacted quickly and got us out of harms way--they swerved into our lane.  I didn't hear a crash so I hope they didn't smash into a mountain side or anything but it was completely covered in greenery so I don't know. Several cars stopped to help. Driving in Kauai can be entertaining and frustrating at the same time. There is only one main road so if there is a wreck then that entire section of the island kind of comes to a standstill. There was a horrible wreck in Lihue when we landed and we were stuck in barely moving traffic for over an hour. They blocked off a portion of town and Jeff saw a limo with a motorcycle underneath.

These are my favorite pictures from your trip. Love the horses and the lighthouse, really gorgeous. Sounds like it is as dangerous to drive there as Mexico!

I guess this rivals our almost head on crash into traffic with no brakes or whatever was wrong with that jeep. Ralph also made race car moves to save us.
